New Construction & Modernization
Edwards Air Force Base, CA
Client: United States Air Force
Project Size: $0M – $2M
This construction project was an initial installation of a prototype for a new generation of earthen pre-cast concrete munitions bunkers. The new munitions bunker was designed to direct the products of combustion caused by inadvertent detonation, through the roof by slowly releasing the interior pressures. The pre-cast sections of the bunker were purchased from the manufacturer and shipped to the site. All foundation work was installed to meticulous tolerances to ensure that the bunker would perform as designed. An on-site bunker manufacturer Engineer was on-site throughout construction to provide construction and quality control observations and feedback to the manufacturer.
Work consisted of the demolition of an existing bunker, over-excavation and re-compaction of soil, cast in place spread footings, installation of the new bunker components, waterproofing, backfilling and compaction of the earth around the new bunker. A new electrical system was also installed in the bunker. Explosion proof lighting and fire detection/alarm systems were installed in the new munitions bunker as well.
On this design-bid-build, firm fixed price construction contract, Sergent Construction Services acted as general contractor as well as self-performed the following trades: earthwork and electrical. In all, SCS self-performed 35% of this project’s scope of work.
New Construction & Modernization
St. Louis, MO
Client: United States Coast Guard
Project Size: $2M – $5M
This design-bid-build construction project was for the construction of a second-floor addition at US Coast Guard ISA located in St. Louis, MO. The project involved construction of a 2,100 SF second floor steel mezzanine including all associated site work, earthwork, concrete, structural concrete, structural steel, metal framing, drywall, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, communications, fire alarm/mass notification, and interior finishes. The new second floor mezzanine was designed to house additional Coast Guard Officer Personnel and therefore was finished with a HVAC system, including all associated building carpet, drywall, partitions, bathroom, and plumbing.
In order to not disrupt the facility and its occupants, Sergent Construction Services (SCS) had to install temporary office space adjacent to the construction site. This included the installation of temporary power and communications. SCS also phase construction efforts to not interfere with the activities of on-base personnel.
On this project, Sergent Construction Systems self-performed approximately 35% of this project’s scope. Some of the trades that were self-performed by SMS include HVAC piping and duct work, carpentry, demolition, temporary site electrical, and touch-up painting.
